One hike, four seasons – unforgettable autumn excursion in Swedish Lapland
I couldn’t get enough of it. Despite the breath-taking views there was something that impressed me even more; the presence of all four seasons.
During one short hike we were able to experience them all, not only autumn, but also winter, spring and summer.
This Instagram Travel Thursday is all about telling—or let’s rather say showing—the reasons why a sweet September hike in the Swedish mountains was so incredible and unforgettable.
At the beginning of September I was lucky to be able to participate on a press trip organized by VisitSweden. The destination for me and a few fellow bloggers was a little mountain village called Björkliden, located in Swedish Lapland, very near the border of Sweden and Norway.
I have already written stories about our adventure in a limestone cave and our exciting and extreme glacier hike. Yet on Instagram I have been showing slightly different kinds of views from the Swedish mountains. Why was I so impressed by them?
The best time to admire the autumn colours would be right now, when September has just turned to October. At the beginning of September, nature around us was already starting to get the beautiful colours of autumn foliage.
I couldn’t get enough of it. I could have spent hours next to my hotel room window admiring this view. Despite the breath-taking views there was something that impressed me even more; the presence of all four seasons.
During one very short hike we were able to experience them all, not only autumn, but also winter, spring and summer.
First we walked through snow and freezing wind. We were surrounded by thick fog and clouds so low. I was sliding down the snowy, slippery hills, and I had to break the icy surface of the snowdrifts to get a grip with my shoes to be able to climb uphill.
Soon we left the snow, fog and icy rain behind us. Just suddenly the winter was gone. We were accompanied by a mountain river with crystal clear water and splashing waterfalls. A completely new world was opening ahead of us. Meadows and fields were so green and fresh air was full of gentle whiffs. It was spring.
The clouds withdrew and the sun came up. Hikers that were prepared for cold and wet mountain weather were sweating as the air get warmer and warmer. Birds were singing, nature was blooming. It was summer.
Yet with every step, autumn reminded us of its’ existence. The grass was green, the snowy tops of mountains were rising ahead of us, but yet, it was autumn. Beautiful, colourful, unforgettable autumn.
