Tonight we’ll start our car and head towards new adventures! The destination will be England, but this time we’re not going to stay in London. Actually, this trip is about everything else but not London; it’s going to be an awesome road trip in the UK.
I can’t really talk about a road trip in England, as our first stop will be Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. If the weather allows us, and oh god I hope it will, the first task will be taking over the peak of Snowdon. After that’s done we’ll continue driving towards Lake District National Park.
Lake District is a destination where I have been longing for a long time, as is Wales and Snowdonia. Unfortunately during this trip we’ll only get a tiny little taste of each, but it’s still better than nothing, right?
A misty view from the top of Snowdon.
VagabondBaker alias Rachel recommended us to stay in the historical village of Hawkshead and this is exactly what we’re going to do. After Lake District we’ll continue to York where we’ll spend one more night before heading for Essex and Frinton-On-Sea. Frinton is always the main target for us when we’re travelling to England, as that’s the place where Daniel’s family lives. It’s been a while since our last visit, so I can’t wait to get to the East Coast of England again!
But where should we go after a few days in Frinton? Well, that’s the question! One route we’ve been thinking of would take us to Oxford, perhaps to Bath, but at least Stonehenge will definitely be on our list of destinations—finally!
During our road trip in the UK we’ll definitely visit Stonehenge—finally!
After Stonehenge we’ll most probably head for south, perhaps Southampton or Portsmouth before returning back home to Finland. I’d really really love to visit Torquay, the place where I spent 3 weeks on a language course nearly 20 years ago, but during this tightly scheduled road trip we won’t have enough time to do that, unfortunately. Maybe next time!
Quite a lot for an 8-day trip, don’t you think? At this moment, half a day prior to our take off, the second half of our trip is still completely open for suggestions, so in case you have any, please do give your best tips on the comments. I’m fully aware this road trip might sound like the UK fast forward, but I trust it’ll be good. After all, I’m extremely happy with our road trip in Iceland; We managed a hell of a lot in only 3 days of driving!
For me personally this road trip will be a completely new kind of travel experience, as besides Daniel, also his kids are coming along for the first time. Despite the Frinton part, we’ll be staying in traditional British inns, guesthouses and B&Bs which will be, among the national parks, a real highlight of the trip from my part!
So, this is the plan, even if it’s still a bit open. Any thoughts, tips or other comments? Please share them on comments below!
